Forgery: With these fists
Lord K: Nothing wrong with this one. A bit bassy production, but the Pantera-groove in the guitar department together with some nifty hooks and whatnot sure is coming across all fine. 7
Cobal: Groovy Scandinavian stuff that takes its time to really take off, but definitely has its moments. At times it feels like “The Great Southern Trendkill”-era Pantera meets early Meshuggah meets White Zombie. 8
The Duff: Sepultura/Fear Factory fans with a minor hint at death and roll; angry, fist-metal. Music to fist. 2
sincan: I kind of agree with the DuffmeistR here. The vocals are boring to put it in a nice way and lacks variation. 4
Subliritum: Downfall
Lord K: Is this the first Scraps edition that actually holds a few decent-to-good bands? Yes, it is. Subliritum is a nice surprise. 6
Cobal: Melodic black metal with very busy guitar playing. I like the more furious parts better. 6
The Duff: A lot of influences here – black metal ala Dissection, Dimmu Borgir, black melodic-death like early Wintersun and The Forsaken and I’m ashamed to say Spawn of Possession, Obscura tech-death bands (that took me an age to identify), vocals remind me of The Forsaken and a raspier Nödtveidt, gurgly. Another surprise from this edition when I think about it. 8
sincan: Melodic blackened death etc. which has been done many times before. Sorry but I lack originality (they’re not alone in this s(crap)s-version). 6
Dö: EP 2014
Lord K: Cobal said “slow motion metal”. That make sense. What sucks though is that music like this hardly ever make sense. Unless it’s Candlemass. The vocals fucken suck it, though, and are destroying the vibe completely. 3
Cobal: Vocals aside, I found this highly Sabbath-influenced slow motion metal pretty enjoyable. I’ll always deny the whole 70’s fever of today is a fad… 7
The Duff: If St. Vitus and Primordial merged; man I miss The Mighty Nimbus; I don’t mind this much, but it doesn’t go anywhere nor do much for me. 3
sincan: Not horrible for being dissected in the S(crap)s quarters. However it feels like the riffs are being played 10-20 percent to fast, and the vocals are a bit weak. 6
Confess: Jail
Lord K: I can always dig me some 80’s glam/hardrock. Confess is doing their crap well. 7
Cobal: It’s got its moments alright, the thing is I always feel embarrassed by bands playing “original” 80’s hard-rock these days. 5
The Duff: Appetite-era Guns & Roses meets Dream Theater/Children of Bodom and power metal; not bad, flashy cock-rock for the metal-man with a touch of Status Quo/Europe cheese. Great guitar player. 4
sincan: I confess, this is to cute and easy listened to even be fun. 4
Decapitated Christ: Arcane impurity ceremonies
Lord K: Xavier who plays in this band is a fucken hero. DC’s music is not completely my cup of death metal though. 5
Cobal: I remember stubbing another work from these people last year. I also remember I kinda liked it. What I didn’t remember was how effective they are when one’s in the mood. No cover, still 7
The Duff: Have to be Opeth fans with that Blackwater Park intro. Don’t know the absurd number of bars that intro is, but then we get into some decent Vomitory-style death metal meets Aeternus black/death and Darkthrone. This might be hated by most on the team, but I’m very fond of early Aeternus, and this can get pretty dark. 7,5
sincan: So-so and relatively monotonously death with its moments here and there. 6
After going thru that crap, you most likely wanna read something way more interesting. You do, admit it.
